The
Welsh Pony - Section B (not to exceed 14.0 hands)
By The Welsh Pony and Cob Society of Canada
The
general description of the Welsh Mountain Pony can be applied to the Welsh
Pony, with greater emphasis being placed on riding pony qualities while
still retaining the true Welsh type of quality with substance.
For
generations these ponies were the hill farmer's main means of transport,
herding sheep and wild ponies over rough and mountainous country. They
had to be hardy, balanced and fast to survive, which ensured that only
the best were bred from. These qualities, combined with a natural jumping
ability, plus the temperament of their Welsh Mountain Pony fore bearers
make the Welsh Pony second to none in whatever field his young rider chooses.
Today they hold their own among our top class riding and driving ponies,
both in performance competitions and in the show ring.

About the Author: The Welsh Pony and Cob Society
of Canada |
In the beginning, as some writers say,
there was the Canadian Pony Society. As the interest in the Welsh
breed increased, the membership of the Canadian Pony Society included
a large proportion of Welsh owners.
In 1979 the Welsh group decided to strike
out on their own and leave the Canadian Pony Society so the Welsh
Pony & Cob Society of Canada was born. The Canadian Pony Society
still exists and registers Shetland, Polo, Dartmoor, Fell, Highland,
New Forest and other pony breeds. |
